Salford’s just over a mile from from the centre of Manchester, which makes the two cities a bit of an amorphous blob. Salford could never be called the posh end of Manchester, but the last few years have seen enough rebuilding and regenerating (especially the Docks) to render parts of it attractive. The University’s collection of far-from-hideous modern buildings is based on a greener than green campus..more detail A large percentage of students are local, making life a little lonely at the weekends when most head for home (or eLSE head for the bright lights of Manchester)...more on entertainment Salford’s keen on sorting out students with work experience and industry placements, some of which count towards final degree marks. On the downside, media courses are all heavily over-subscribed, especially the likes of Performance, TV and Radio Technology...more on academic The SU is more concerned with commercial services and entertainments than anything overtly political...more on the SU Achievements in sport are few, but facilities plentiful – including 50 acres of outdoor space for doing various things with balls...more on sports Early bird first years who get their applications in before September are guaranteed accommodation...more on housing

Woohoo: Two cities for the price of one
Boo: Not quite recovered from post-industrial gloom
